Welcome to the TST BOCES Post Secondary Collaborations Site. This site is posted and maintained by Heather Sheridan-Thomas, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction (607-257-1551ext. 203; hsheridanthomas@tstboces.org).

Colleges, universities and community colleges in the TST BOCES region regularly collaborate with preK-12 schools on a variety of creative projects that enhance the learning of all involved. Other agencies focused on preparing students for post-secondary life (Workforce Development, Tech Prep) also collaborate with public schools. This site is designed to provide an accessible avenue of communication for potential collaborators at all levels. Also posted here will be models of successful P16 collaborations; discussion forums related to P16 collaborations; criteria and rubrics for successful collaborations; forms and contracts related to setting up collaborations; and articles related to higher education/public education collaborations.

Available Courses

  • CEE's try at hybrid professional development delivery

  • Post opportunities for post-secondary/P16+ research partnerships. This may include grant-funded or non-funded opportunities, and may be small or large scale projects.

  • This is a place to share examples of successful collaborations. The "social forum" format allows you to add your own examples and provides the opportunity for others to comment on each example.

  • We will be developing lists of criteria and rubrics for successful collaborations. We will also post forms that may prove useful in setting up collaborations. If you have a contract or other form you have used as a framework for collaborations that you are willing to share, please contact Heather Sheridan-Thomas.

  • Please post resources that you have that you would like to share. These could be topical expertise, exhibits of interest to students, etc. Please be specific about whether this is a resource for professional development, for collaborative research work with teachers, for direct involvement with P12 students, or other.

Post ideas about what you need. For example, a college professor may need a site for interns or public education grant partner; a classroom teacher might need an expert on a science topic (grad student or professor) to provide hands on activities in her 3rd grade class.

NYSED News

  • Statewide high school graduation results reported by school districts were released today.
  • I am pleased that New York State has been selected as a finalist in the first round of the federal Race to the Top competition. The Regents and I commend our many partners in school districts across the state for their support in developing New York's application. Together, we developed a strong and competitive proposal -- one that will advance the bold reforms needed to turn around failing schools, close the achievement gap and enable all of our children to succeed. These reforms aim to ensure that all of New York's public schools have truly effective teachers and principals, high quality curricula, well-designed assessments and are focused on the academic success of every child. We continue to recognize the importance of Legislative action to the Regents' broader agenda for education reform. We look forward to presenting our case in Washington for a comprehensive, integrated and innovative education reform agenda for New York State.
  • The New York State Education Department (NYSED) has been awarded $9.5 million in a matching grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) to expand computer access in public libraries across New York State. The funding is being provided through the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act (ARRA) Broadband Technology Opportunities Program (BTOP).
