Program Goals

  Classes are separated into different levels ranging from new
beginner to high advanced.  In class, teachers develop ways
to meet the particular needs and styles of each student in
order to maximize their independence in communication. 
The classes can be designed to help students learn enough
English to reach any of the following goals:

  ·        Become more proficient in speaking, listening, reading and writing English

·        Improve basic literacy skills

·        Prepare for earning a GED diploma

·        Enter college or training

·        Obtain skills to pass the citizenship test

·        Obtain a job

·        Improve job status

·        Retain a current job

 

Requirements

·        Must be 18 years old or over

·        Must qualify as limited English proficient

   Our adult ESL class program is designed for people who will reside and/or work in the Ithaca area for more than three months. 

  (Although there is no tuition, there is a $100 registration fee.  In addition, some teachers ask their students to purchase books)**************************************************

 

New Class:

"English Speaking and Listening Tutorial Program"- this program includes 26 half-hour sessions with a private teacher in addition to work at home.  This course is appropriate for advanced speakers who are not eligible for the "English as a Second Language" program (described above) because of their advanced proficiency.

The fee for the program is $450.00

 

How to Enroll
Call 273-4095 to make an intake appointment. Students will fill out forms, take a speaking and listening skills assessment test and meet with a counselor who arranges the most suitable class time and schedule.
